LAGRANGE RALLIES TO SLIP PAST WESLEYAN

A two-out rally in the seventh inning helped visiting LaGrange College complete the sweep of Wesleyan College in a Great South Athletic Conference doubleheader at the Mathews Athletic Complex.

Leadoff hitter Katie Ison blasted a line drive shot over the centerfield fence to highlight LaGrange's 4-0 victory in game one. The Panthers (7-15, 3-1 GSAC) scored in each of the first two innings while Katie Hein and Kristen Woodard combined to limit the Pioneers to just four hits in the shutout. DaLin Gillis managed a pair of hits in the loss.

Game two featured more drama. Brittany Jones, DaLin Gillis and Ashley Jackson put together three straight two-out hits to score twice in the third inning for Wesleyan (1-18, 0-4 GSAC). Gillis held LaGrange at bay until the sixth inning as the Panthers took advantage of an error and a passed ball to eventually cut the lead in half. In their next at-bat, LaGrange made the most of another Pioneer error as Katie Hein drove in the game-tying run with two outs on the board. The momentum followed the Panthers into extra innings as Kristi Underwood's fielder's choice would plate Hein with the game-winning run.

Gillis would toss her ninth complete game of the season and allowed only one earned run to watch her ERA fall to 3.50 which ranks in the GSAC's top five.

Wesleyan continues GSAC play on Sunday when they travel to Huntingdon for a 1:00pm CT doubleheader.
