Cross Country Improves Times at GSW Remembrance Run

Americus, Ga. - The Wesleyan College cross country team competed in the GSW Remembrance Run hosted by Georgia Southwestern State University on Saturday morning.  The only Division III college competing in the event, the Pioneers raced against some of the state's top teams including Columbus State, Clayton State, Valdosta State and Mercer University.

Freshman Christina Mayfield once again completed the course as the Pioneer's top finisher (47th-24:15), while Maria Vasquez (55th - 25:17) improved her time by nearly 45 seconds to be Wesleyan's second place finisher. Rounding out Wesleyan's scoring competitors were Kaitlyn Rentz (57th - 25:48), Turhonda Williams (58th - 26:03) and Azea Mustafa (59th - 26:11).

"We competed against some really good teams today, which made the girls really push themselves through the course," remarked head coach Melissa Bush.  "Most of them improved their times, which is obviously what we are looking for, and they worked hard.  I'm proud of their effort and left the meet feeling really good about where we are right now."

Also competing for the Pioneers were Sable Phillips (65th - 28:18), Aditi Dey (66th - 28:24), LindaMarie Tonn (69th - 31:38) and Christen Daniel (70th - 31:53).

Wesleyan returns to action in two weeks when they compete in the Great South Athletic Conference pre-conference meet hosted by Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Ga.
