Three Wesleyan Teams Wrap Up Weekend Action

Cross Country Tours GSAC Championship Course
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Wesleyan College got its first look at the 2011 GSAC Championship course while competing in the conference preview meet, finishing seventh overall.

The Pioneers competed without Azea Mustafa and Christina Mayfield, two of their top performers during the first part of the fall campaign. Maria Vazquez stepped up in the pair's absence, posting Wesleyan's only top-40 finish by placing 36th overall in a time of 31:46.96.

Wesleyan returns to the trails next weekend at the Darton Invitational.

Soccer Falls to Spelman in First Match of GSAC Play
MACON, Ga. - The Wesleyan College soccer team squared off against Great South rival Spelman College on Saturday night, falling by a score of 6-1.

The Jaguars (3-3-1) possessed the ball for a majority of the game and were led by Jasmine Molin's two goals and two assists as well as Brittnee Gillespie's two goals.  The Pioneers lone goal came off of a Spelman own goal at the end of the first half.  Wesleyan's Abby Stephens had 15 saves for the game.

Wesleyan hits the road for a couple of GSAC matches this week before returning to Macon for a four game homestand beginning on Monday, Oct. 3 against Maryville College. 

Volleyball Opens GSAC Play With Tri-Match at Covenant
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Wesleyan Volleyball opened GSAC play falling to Spelman College and Covenant College in a tri-match hosted by the Scots.

The Pioneers were swept in both matches. La'Joi Battle and Adrianne Woodward each finished the day with five kills.

Wesleyan is back on the court Tuesday night at Fort Valley State.
