Wesleyan Cross Country Posts Encouraging Marks in Season Opener

ALBANY, Ga. – Seven Wesleyan cross country runners posted top-20 finishes in the team’s season opener at the Darton College Invitational.

Freshman Christina Mayfield completed the 5000-meter course in 24:06 to place 11th overall, which marked the top finish by a Pioneer. Kaitlyn Rentz (13th – 25:49.00), Maria Vasques (14th – 26:01.00) and Azea Mustafa (15th – 26:58.00) each finished in the top-15.

"I'm really proud of our performance today," remarked Wesleyan head coach Melissa Bush.  "We are starting this season with the times that we ended last season with, which is really exciting to see."

Team captain Aditi Dey (17th – 28:24.00) joined Rentz in establishing personal records in their 2011 debut. Sable Phillips (18th – 28:36.00), LindaMarie Tonn (21st – 30:41.00) and Christin Daniels (23rd – 34:08.00) rounded out the Wesleyan competitors. As a team, the Pioneers placed third.

Wesleyan returns to action next week at the GSW Remembrance Run in Americus, Ga.
