The Wesleyan College softball team picked up two more wins over Andrew College on Tuesday evening, defeating the Lady Tigers 5-3 and 3-1. The Pioneers rediscovered their offensive rhythm, picking up a combined 17 hits over the course of the two games.
In the day’s first game, Wesleyan jumped on the Lady Tigers early when sophomore Ashley Jackson hit a three-run homerun over the center field wall in the first inning. However, Andrew tied the score at three in the third inning, with hits by Kayla Lumley, Brittany Ellington and Brandie Monroe. The game remained tied until a single by Lacie King in the fifth inning scored Jackson once again and allowed the Pioneers to regain the lead for good. Wesleyan tacked on an extra run in the sixth inning to solidify the win and give freshman Brittany Jones her first collegiate win. Jones pitched a complete game, striking out nine while surrendering only three hits.
The Pioneers continued their winning ways in game two on the heels of senior pitcher DaLin Gillis, who struck out 16 batters while allowing only four hits. Offensively, the Pioneers picked up eight hits in game two paced by Denise Ramey (3-for-4, RBI), Lacie King (2-for-3) and Cheyanne Siebenaler (1-for-2, 2B).
The Pioneers wrap up their home-stand on Friday, March 6, taking on Millsaps College in a doubleheader beginning at 5:00pm.
