RHODES COLLEGE SWEEPS WESLEYAN SOFTBALL

The Wesleyan College softball team continued their home-stand today against Rhodes College, losing both games of the doubleheader to the Lynx who were seeing their first action of the season.

Offensive inconsistency continued to plague the Pioneers (0-11) in the first game of the day. Wesleyan was once again able to generate only three hits in their 6-0 loss against the Lynx (2-0). DaLin Gillis was the lone Pioneer to successfully put the ball in play, finishing the game with two singles on 2-for-2 hitting. The Lynx showed no signs of off-season rust in their season opener, tallying 10 hits, which were highlighted by Armanda Venezia’s two-run home run over the center field wall.

In the evening’s second game, the Pioneers had a better outing at the plate, but four errors in the field contributed to their 7-1 loss. Wesleyan picked up six hits and scored their only run when Cheyanne Siebenaler’s single brought Lacie King across the plate. The Lynx once again gave an impressive offensive performance, adding another nine hits to their season total.

The Pioneers continue their home-stand on Tuesday, February 24, taking on Andrew College in a doubleheader beginning at 5:00pm.
