Wesleyan Equestrian Team Earns Reserve High Point Team at FSU

The Wesleyan College equestrian team competed in two western shows this past Saturday as well as in the Western Regionals on Sunday at Florida State University.

In Saturday’s first show, the Pioneers finished as the Reserve High Point team, taking second place. In the Advanced Horsemanship division, sophomore Christy Mann earned the first place ribbon, while senior Amanda Dotson placed third. Wesleyan also took home second (April Roos), third (Rebecca Turner) and fourth place (Jennifer Theisen) finishes in the Novice Horsemanship division. Riding Intermediate Horsemanship, sophomores Amy Brinson and Rachael Webb placed first and third, respectively. Rounding out the day, freshman Kaitlyn Rentz earned a second place finish in Beginner Horsemanship, while freshman Brittany Thompson finished fifth in Intermediate Horsemanship II.

In the second show of the day, the Wesleyan equestrian team finished third overall. Brittany Thompson (Intermediate Horsemanship II) and Kaitlyn Rentz (Beginner Horsemanship) both improved over their previous performances to collect the first place ribbons in their respective competitions. In Advanced Horsemanship, the Pioneers finished third (Christy Mann) and fourth (Amanda Dotson), while the Novice Horsemanship competitors took home third (Rebecca Turner), fourth (April Roos) and fifth place (Jennifer Theisen) finishes. Rachael Webb and Amy Brinson also showed strong performances in the Intermediate Horsemanship I competition, placing second and fifth, respectively.

In the Western Regionals competition that was held on Sunday, the Pioneers finished on top once again. April Roos and Jennifer Theisen placed second and third in Intermediate Horsemanship, while Amy Brinson and Rachael Webb collected first and third place ribbons in Beginner Horsemanship. The final rider of the day, Christy Mann, placed fifth in Novice Horsemanship.

Based on their performances throughout the season and in the Western Regionals competition, April Roos and Amy Brinson scored enough points to qualify for the Western Semifinals that will take place in Texas on March 21.
